Vehicles in Germany's City Found Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Police stated they were contacted by a man who noticed a automobile in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Around 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.

Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.

Law enforcement say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.

The substance had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they stated.

Officers then discovered many other smeared cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement say early analysis indicate the substance was most likely blood from a person.

"There is still no lead as to where it came from; investigators are not yet informed of any physical harm in connection with the event," they commented.

Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have asked to the public for information.

An important political figure commented the attack left him speechless and needed to be addressed rapidly.

"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
